On May 20–21, 2025, the Armed Forces Academy of General Milan Rastislav Štefánik in Liptovský Mikuláš welcomed a delegation of 15 officers from the National Defence College Nigeria, led by Brigadier General Olumide Adeleke OJO. The visit was part of a study tour in the Slovak Republic focused on the theme “Renewable Energy and National Development in Slovakia: Lessons for Nigeria.”
The programme was designed to share expert knowledge and Slovakia’s experience in the field of renewable energy and its significance for national security and development. The officers attended several presentations delivered by Dr. Urban Rusnák, who addressed topics such as energy security, sustainability, and innovation in the energy sector.
Representing the Academy’s rector, Colonel Roman Kráľ, Director of the Education Centre, guided the delegation throughout their visit. In addition to academic lectures, the Nigerian delegation was introduced to the Academy’s Simulation Centre and the Education Centre.
The visit concluded with an official gift exchange and closing remarks from both sides. A key highlight was the discussion on further cooperation in military education, research, and knowledge sharing between Slovak and Nigerian defence institutions.
For the Armed Forces Academy, this visit represented an opportunity not only to showcase its professional and technical capacities but also to strengthen international relations and pave the way for long-term collaboration with a prominent African defence institution. For the Nigerian delegation, the visit served as a valuable source of inspiration and information to support the effective implementation of renewable energy initiatives in their homeland.
