The Department of Security and Defense is the basic higher education and research workplace of the Academy for the field of national, international security and military art. It provides education in the "State Security and Defense" study program at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels of higher education.

The department is the guarantor for obtaining the scientific-pedagogical title of associate professor and professor in the relevant field of habilitation and inaugural procedures. Graduates of the study program are educated for the needs of mechanized, artillery, engineering and logistics units.

In research, the department focuses on the area of state security policy. Scientific activities are focused on the development of the branches of science and technology in the military. It participates in the creation, development and verification of concepts and doctrines of the armed forces in the national and alliance environment
