From September 8th to 10th 2026, the Armed Forces Academy of General Milan Rastislav Stefanik (SVK AFA) hosted a comprehensive review and practical dry run of selected elements of the F-16 Sustainment Management Course. The workshop was organised by the Professional Military Education Centre (PMEC) under the professional guidance of the Institute for Security Governance (ISG), in close cooperation with the Slovak Air Force, US experts from the 162nd Wing of the Arizona Air National Guard and the 122nd Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard, as well as representatives of the F-16 System Program Office.
On September 7th, members of the US delegation met with representatives of the Defence Planning Policy of the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava to provide an update on the status of the project and outline the next steps planned for its further development. The purpose of the subsequent workshop at SVK AFA was not to deliver the course itself, but to verify the methodological readiness of the training materials ahead of the official delivery of the first course. The course will consist of four modules focusing on the broader context, Slovak sustainment processes, F-16 sustainment processes, and practical scenarios.
During the workshop, ISG experts delivered the first two course modules, while the third and fourth modules were presented by Lieutenant Colonel Michal Janík of the Slovak Air Force. Each module was followed by a discussion and an evaluation session. Feedback was collected in accordance with the Kirkpatrick evaluation model using QR codes and Microsoft Forms questionnaires. The evaluation involved selected Slovak Air Force participants attending the Advanced Command and Staff Course, as well as other workshop participants.
The workshop concluded with a working-level meeting attended by the Head of the Department of Logistics, representatives of PMEC, and members of the Slovak Armed Forces. The discussion focused on the potential incorporation of selected lessons identified and processes developed during the preparation of the F-16 Sustainment Management Course into the Academy’s wider education and training system, ranging from university-level programmes to professional military career courses within the Slovak Armed Forces.
