Starting in the summer semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, specifically on April 11, 2025, English language instruction has been offered to cadets at the Faculty of Aeronautics, Technical University of Košice. The introduction of this type of teaching was prompted by the increased English language requirements for professions such as air traffic controllers and pilots. Another important factor is that first- and second-year cadets in the 2025/2026 academic year will be required to obtain an English language certificate in accordance with STANAG 6001 level SLP 2 by the end of their studies. This certificate is also recommended for cadets for whom it is not mandatory to successfully complete their studies.
The teaching is delivered by Lt. Mgr. Ján DAŇO from the Department of Social Sciences and Languages on Fridays as scheduled by the responsible superior of Faculty of Aeronautics TUKE cadets, for a total of six hours per week, amounting to approximately 78 hours of instruction in the winter semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The number of students varies, as the specific nature of the study programs at the Faculty of Aeronautics often prevents all students from attending, for example, due to training flights. Consequently, the number of participating students typically fluctuates between 30 and 45.
The instruction itself is tailored to prepare cadets for the STANAG 6001 SLP2 language certificate, with extensive use of internal materials and publications from the language section of the Department of Social Sciences and Languages at the Armed Forces Academy of Gen. M.R. Štefánik in Liptovský Mikuláš.
