As part of Science Week at the Armed Forces Academy, presentations were held on Thursday, November 13, for AFA students and staff, showing how artificial intelligence (AI) can support foreign language teaching.
Mgr. Lenka Nagyová, PhD. presented several modern AI tools:
Gamma – allows you to create interactive presentations in a matter of minutes. The tool is visually and typographically appealing and can be adapted to various topics.
Write and Improve with Cambridge – a platform from Cambridge University Press that provides instant feedback on grammar, vocabulary, and writing style. Students also receive information about their writing level (e.g., B1, B2...).
Word Wall – contains quizzes, fill-in-the-blanks, matching, and various interactive activities for practicing grammar and vocabulary.
Katarína Hološová presented other AI tools suitable for studying and processing large amounts of information:
NotebookLM – allows you to upload up to 50 files (up to 500,000 words) and process them to create an intelligent summary and analysis between documents (e.g., weekly articles on current events or a summary of a 1-hour course on YouTube). The tool can also create a podcast, an overview video on a topic, a study guide, a vocabulary quiz, or questions for critical analysis of a topic.
Perplexity searches for information on the web and provides reliable citations, helping to accurately verify facts. It uses multiple AI models and automatically selects the most appropriate one based on the user's needs.
Notion.so serves as a digital workspace for notes, tasks, and creating materials for self-study vocabulary. Customizable templates and tools allow you to summarize topics, take notes, brainstorm ideas, generate study questions, and create exercises.
Quizlet - an interactive tool for learning vocabulary using flashcards and games. Learn Mode uses AI to track progress and tailor learning to the individual needs of the student
These modern tools show that artificial intelligence can significantly streamline language teaching, make learning more engaging and interactive and tailor instruction to each student´s individual needs for maximum effectiveness.
