The Department of Military Tactics and Operational Art is a higher education and research institution of the Armed Forces Academy for the field of military art.

The department participates in the education and training of students within all forms and levels of higher education and further lifelong education implemented at the Armed Forces Academy with a focus on the training of experts in the field of command, control and use of ground forces units of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic.

In the "Defence and Military" study program, it provides and implements teaching mainly in military-professional subjects with a focus on the training of officers with the following skills:

• G10 – infantry, motorized, mechanized and tank troops;

• G20 – artillery;G30 – engineer support and EOD.

In the field of science and research, the department focuses on the development and optimization of the use of weapons, weapon systems and units, especially ground forces, in operations across the entire spectrum of conflict. The department participates in the creation, development and verification of concepts, military regulations, doctrines and service aids of the armed forces in the national and alliance environment.
