Vice-Rector for Military Issues COL Štefan Acsai, born on February 2nd, 1969 in Želiezovce, graduated from elementary school in the village of Kukučínov (first to fourth grade) and in the village of Zbrojníky (fifth to eighth grade). After graduating from elementary school, he continued his studies at the Military Secondary Vocational School in Martin, which he successfully completed in 1987. After graduating from the Military Academy of the Ground Forces in Vyškov, majoring in artillery systems in 1991, he took up the position of fire platoon commander of the 64th Tank Regiment in Levice.
During his career, he served in various command and staff positions at the tactical level until 2016, when he joined the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces as head of the department of international military cooperation. In 2017-2018, he served as Commander of the NFIU (NATO Force Integration Unit) in Slovakia. In 2019, he worked at the operational level at position of G-7 chief at the Slovak Land Forces Command. In the years 2019-2022, he was sent to perform tasks outside the territory of the Slovak Republic in the city of Bydhošť (Republic of Poland), where he worked for the NATO JFTC (Joint force Training Centre) as Branch Head - Exercise Execution. After returning from deployment in the Republic of Poland, he was assigned to the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces as Chief of J-7.
During his time in the armed forces, he was deployed several times in military missions, namely in Kosovo in 2002 as Deputy Chief of S-3 in the 1st Czechoslovak KFOR Battalion and in 2006 as a J-3 Desk officer at the KFOR Headquarters. In 2009, he served as a fire support officer at RC(S) HQ ISAF in Afghanistan, in 2011 as a contingent commander at the Kandahar base, and in 2013 as an MSF SFAT ISAF advisory team commander in Zabul province.
During his service, he improved his qualifications by completing several courses, namely JSOC CEE Junior Officer Course in 2004 and Advanced Command and Staff Course in 2012 at the Armed Forces Academy of General M. R. Štefánik (AFA) in Liptovský Mikuláš. In 2017, he completed the NDC Senior Course 131 in Rome (Italy).
On April 1st, 2023, he was appointed to the position of Vice-rector for Military Issues of AFA, which he still holds today.
In 1990, he married Klaudia Acsaiová. Two children were born in this marriage, sons Štefan and Erik.
Computer skills include Microsoft Office/Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook. In addition to the mother language (Slovak), he can use English, Czech and Hungarian in spoken and written form. He holds a driving license of groups AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, C1, C, T.
Born in 1982 in Dolný Kubín. Graduated from the Faculty of Land Forces of the Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš, specialisation: Military Systems Management - Military Engineering (2005). Doctoral degree from the Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš, specialising in Security and Defence of the State in the field of Defence and Military (2021).
From 2005 to 2016 he served in the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic in command and staff positions as a platoon commander, staff officer, group chief and company commander. From 2016 to 2018 he served as a leading senior officer at the International Staff Officer Course (ISOC) and from 2019 to 2020 as a lecturer at the International Course Department of the Professional Military Education Centre of the Armed Forces Academy. From 2020 he was an assistant and from 2022 he is an assistant professor at the Department of Military Tactics and Operational Art of the Armed Forces Academy. He has served in several national and international crisis management operations under NATO and EU command.
In 2020 he was elected to the position of the Chair of the Academic Senate of the Armed Forces Academy. He is a member of the Presidium of the Council of Higher Education of the Slovak Republic, a member of the Quality Assurance Board of the Armed Forces Academy, and a member of the Editorial Board of the journal "Military Reflections".
His academic research focuses on combat and operational employment of land forces, military engineering, security sector reform, hybrid warfare and operational art. NATO DEEP expert in tactical and operational planning for Ukraine and in officer education enhancement for Ukraine, Iraq, and Georgia. Leading researcher of the MoD project focusing on military mobility and researcher of the MoD projects focusing on fire support, researcher of the European Union international project "Interdisciplinary Education and Training on Hybrid Warfare".
He focuses his teaching activities on the field of military engineering, operational and tactical planning, and explosive ordnance disposal. He works as a thesis supervisor in the first and second stage of university studies at the Armed Forces Academy and as a thesis opponent and consultant at foreign universities (Czech Republic, Romania, Portugal). He is also involved in the education and training of students as a consultant of student scientific and professional theses at student scientific conferences. He has participated in ERASMUS+ mobilities at the National Defence University "Carol I" Bucharest, University of Defence Brno, and War Studies University Warsaw.
