For two weeks in April/May 2025, we welcomed Susie Naughton from the University of California in Santa Barbara to the Department of Social Sciences and Languages as part of the English Language Fellow (ELF) programme. During her time there, she has been actively involved in English language teaching and has brought new impetus and authentic language contact to the classroom.
Students especially appreciated the opportunity to converse with a native speaker, practicing their language skills in individual conversations and group activities. An interesting enrichment to the class was a series of lessons dedicated to the Museum of Broken Relationships project, where students explored themes of relationships, feelings and emotions, all in English.
Susie also shared her wealth of international experience in the lessons. She taught in Qatar for two years, spent three months in Japan, and spent nine months in Serbia starting in September 2024. During her time in Europe, she has already managed to travel to 12 countries, which has been an inspiration for our students as well.
Her visit was a great benefit not only for the students, but also for the teachers and the whole academic life in our department.
